6 Reasons Why Coffee Can Help You Live Forever

Do you find it almost impossible to function without several cups of strong coffee in the morning? If so you are not alone. Millions of Americans drink coffee every day and it is one of the world’s most popular beverages. It doesn’t even matter how you drink it particularly, although if you are partial to frappuccinos, your waistline will suffer in the long term. So what are the health benefits of drinking coffee and can it really help you live forever?

Keep Going All Day Long

The caffeine content in coffee acts as a powerful stimulant, which is great if you have been up all night or are just feeling a bit sleepy mid afternoon. A cup of strong coffee will blow the cobwebs away and help to keep your brain functioning. So if you are on a long road trip but are beginning to feel sleepy, stop for a cup of extra strong espresso—the break plus a dose of caffeine will help to prevent you from dosing off at the wheel, and thus dying prematurely.

Reduces Risk of Depression

Depression is a serious mental health disorder. Millions of people suffer from some degree of depressive illness at one time or another and if left untreated, depression can lead to suicidal thoughts. Drinking a few cups of coffee per day has been shown to reduce the risk of depression, but irrespective of this, coffee is very much a social drink, so making the effort to step outside the house and meet friends for a coffee is a great mood lift. And happy people live longer.

Reduced Risk of Cancer

Several scientific studies have indicated that people who drink coffee have a reduced risk of developing cancer. Oral cancers, prostate, liver and breast cancer rates are all lower amongst those who enjoy a daily dose of coffee, which is good news for your life expectancy. Drinking espressos might not prevent you from developing cancer at some point, but it could just lessen the odds.

Reduced Risk of Alzheimer’s

Coffee helps to keep the brain healthy, apparently. Studies have indicated that those who drink three or four cups of coffee per day are a lot less likely to develop neurological brain disorders such as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease. You do need to have been a regular coffee drinker for twenty years or so for maximum protection, so if you only picked up the coffee habit last year, you have some way to go yet.

Prevents Diabetes

Coffee contains high levels of antioxidants and minerals, which is why it has been linked to a reduction in the levels of Type 2 diabetes in a number of important scientific studies. Minerals such as chromium and magnesium are known to help the body regulate insulin levels, so regular coffee drinkers are far less likely to be diagnosed with diabetes. However, if you are significantly overweight or you never take any exercise, drinking coffee is unlikely to prevent you from developing diabetes at some point.
Coffee has a number of health benefits that can enhance your life, but if consumed in excess, caffeine is dangerous and may end up shortening your life instead. So remember, for maximum benefits, only drink good quality coffee and always enjoy it in moderation.

7 Essential Tips For Cooking With Kids

kids cookingKids often watch their parents working and completing everyday tasks and long to be involved in the process, help out, and feel grown up.

7 Essential Tips For Cooking With Kids

The kitchen, in particular, can be an intriguing place for children, with all of its appliances, utensils, noises, smells, and processes.

Cooking with kids can be a great bonding and learning experience, from trying new foods, to learning about safety and nutrition, to enhancing their practical skills. Not only will the kids benefit from the experience, but parents can enjoy the time spent together and the food that results from it!

Here are 7 tips brought to you by Funky Fairy Parties to follow when cooking with kids:

Choose a good time – It’s a good idea to set time aside, when you’re not on a tight schedule. Pick a time when you’re relaxed and focused on the experience, not a time when you’re stressed and focused on needing to prepare a meal quickly. Go slow and limit chaos. Make sure the kids aren’t really hungry while you’re cooking as well, because this could make them impatient and agitated.

Planning – With the help of your children, choose a recipe or plan a meal, making a list of ingredients to gather from the kitchen or buy at the store. This will make them feel engaged and excited about the process to follow. And after all, anticipation can be half the fun for children! It will also help them learn how to plan ahead and let them feel proud of making little decisions.
Prepare the area – Before you start cooking, take a few minutes alone to prepare the kitchen, having all the utensils and equipment you’ll need in an easily accessible place, and removing dangerous or sharp objects out of your children’s reach. For young children, it might also be a good idea to have a chair or stool ready for them to be able to work at the right height. Finally, read through the recipes and decide which tasks you’ll delegate to each child.
Safety and supervision – As previously mentioned, it’s a good idea to remove sharp objects from the immediate area, but it’s also important to explain other safety information in age appropriate terms. Let them know what they shouldn’t touch, such as the stove or boiling pots and pans. Let them know what you expect from them, and give them clear instructions to follow. It’s also a good opportunity to teach them about the role of hygiene in food preparation. Regardless of how much information you’ve given them, it’s always a good idea to supervise young children at all times in the kitchen anyway.
Involve the kids – Once you have safety and supervision covered, let the children be as involved as possible, allowing them to help with planning, measuring, stirring, spreading, and cleaning up. Keep them occupied and engaged by giving them small, simple tasks; longer, more complicated jobs can cause them to lose interest. If all else fails, fill up the sink and let them wash up and splash around, keeping them entertained, safe, and involved, and keeping your utensils clean!
Get creative – Let the kids experiment and come up with their own creations like adding a funny face to a pizza, making a kebab out of fruit, and cutting sandwiches into special shapes. Take this time to introduce new foods in a fun way as well, allowing them to try new things as they go along. Don’t be afraid to substitute certain ingredients and flavors as well.
Relax and enjoy – The key to a relaxing and enjoyable experience is to loosen up and be patient. It doesn’t matter if things don’t work out perfectly or if the results end up being an unprecedented culinary disaster – the most important thing is enjoying the experience together, teaching new skills to the kids, and having fun.

End by praising them for their efforts and successes and asking them what they’d like to make the next time you cook together!

Biryani Chicken

Hyderabadi Chicken Dum Biryani Recipe

Biryani! Does that word invoke the feelings of mouth-watering comfort and joy? Yes, we all love this indulged, aromatic, rice delicacy.

Today it is a very special recipe, the Hyderabadi Chicken Biryani. I know it’s your all time favourite. The Arabic, Iranian, Mughals and Turkish food influence this delicious Indian dish using plenty of spices, wheat and rice. On the whole, I love the mixture of herbs and spices carrying the mint aroma that whiff all over the house when you are cooking the Biryani.

Ingredients (serves 3-4 people)

¾ cups of Basmathi rice

225 gms of Chicken with bones

½ of large Onion

Handful chopped Coriander leaves

Chopped mint leaves

2 tbsps of ghee or sunflower oil

Saffron strands

½ tbsp of ginger garlic paste

¼ tsp Turmeric

2 slit Green chilies

Curd 65 ml

1 tbsps of lemon juice

¾ tsp Kashmiri red chilli powder

¼ tsp of Biryani masala powder

¼ tsp of green cardamom powder

Salt to taste

1 ¾ cups of water

1 strand Mace

1 black cardamoms

2 green cardamoms

1 ½ inch Cinnamon stick

3 Cloves

1 bay leaves

¼ tsp of peppercorn

¼ tsp of Shahi jeera or Caraway seeds

First, soak rice in water about 30 minutes, then drain it and set aside. As well, dip the saffron strands in hot milk and set it aside.

Immerse the chicken with the prepared marination ingredients and keep it aside about 30 minutes.

Heat water to cook rice. Add oil, mace, black cardamoms, green cardamoms, cinnamon stick, cloves, bay leaves, peppercorn, shahi jeera and lastly salt. Boil the water for about five minutes. Add the rice which soaked in water before and cook it. Rice should not become syrupy. Drain off excess water.

Put marinated chicken into a deep dish. Add coriander leaves, green chillies, half of the mint, fried onions and pour melted ghee or oil into the dish. Mix all well.

Coat the rice evenly and then add fried onions, coriander leaves and mint. Sprinkle some biryani masala. Repeat the previous step.

Now drizzle saffron milk on top of the rice.

Wash a cloth and wipe all the leftover water. It has to be only damp. Double layer that cloth and put it on the dish’s mouth and cover with the lid.

Place this container above a sizzling tawa and keep the flame medium high letting everything cooks evenly inside the vessel. Cook rice around twenty minutes.

Now decrease the flame from medium to very low and let it cook approximately twenty minutes. Once you see the smoke sopping on the wet cloth, close flame leaving it to soothe for about half an hour.

Your own Hyderabadi Dum Chicken Biryani is prepared. Taste it hot, serve it to your family or visitors, enjoy!
