Festive Christmas Breakfast Ideas
While children may look forward to the presents, this Christmas morning you can look forward to the breakfast feast. The best part is you won’t have to spend a fortune or learn any new skills. All of the following festive Christmas breakfast ideas are easy and affordable.
Peppermint White Chocolate Pancakes
This is a dish that adults and children will both love. You can start with your favorite pancake batter recipe or use a mix. Either way, add white chocolate peppermint chips to the pancakes after pouring the batter in the pan. While the pancakes cook, mix together a cup of powdered sugar along with a 1/2 teaspoon of peppermint extract and enough milk to create a thin frosting. Once the pancakes are done, drizzle with the frosting and top with whipped cream and crushed peppermint candies or candy canes.
Country Ham Biscuits with Cranberry and Apple Jelly
Country ham is a popular breakfast food in the South, but if you love the saltiness of bacon, chances are you’ll also love country ham. A quick breakfast option is to serve country ham on fresh made biscuits along with cranberry, apple or any other festive flavor of jelly or jam. The sweetness of the jelly pairs beautifully with the saltiness of the ham and all the textures work together to create a gourmet breakfast sandwich.
Eggnog French Toast
Another sweet option is to make eggnog French toast. The key is to prepare your favorite French toast batter with eggnog rather than milk. You can then omit the cinnamon and nutmeg as they are already in the eggnog. Allow thick slices of bread to soak in the batter overnight before frying in butter until golden brown on both sides. Top with cinnamon butter and whipped cream before serving.
Cranberry Mimosas
Orange and peach mimosas are a brunch favorite, but why not make the drink more festive by using cranberry juice? The blend of cranberry juice with sparkling white wine is a crisp combination that will leave you taste buds wanting more.
Christmas morning certainly doesn’t have to mean a bowl of cereal or the same old breakfast. There are a number of festive dishes you can prepare that incorporate the flavors of Christmas. Try using cinnamon, nutmeg, peppermint and cranberry flavors throughout your meal. It might be as easy as updating your French toast recipe or switching the juice in your favorite brunch cocktail.
