As we get closer to summer we start to think about outdoor BBQ’s, playing in the park and spending more time outdoors. One of the best ways to do this is to go to the local farmers market. Going to the farmers market is a great way to connect with neighbors and feel a sense of community and eat healthy so you feel better from the inside out. But did you know that eating these foods could help you have cleaner teeth? A diet rich in fiber and calcium is good for you teeth. Visiting the farmers market regularly could improve your regular dental check ups.

Arrive Early

The early bird gets the worm and you can be the early bird snatching up the best crops. When the farmers market opens at 8:00 or 9:00 am the produce that as gathered that morning is fresh and ready for consumption. If you wait until noon, some of the produce can be wilted and picked over.

 

 

Always Taste and Try Before You Buy

One of the reasons the farmers market is so fun is because you get to try samples of great tasting products, tangy jams, fresh bread and plumb berries make the experience a sensory wonderland. But make sure you try the foods you plan to buy.  Some greens have a more natural spicy flavor, and others are sweet. This all depends on the fertilizer, the soil, and the atmosphere of the farm that the produce was grown on. Tasting is part of the experience of the farmers market. It can help you plan your dish.

If you are a farmers market regular you may notice that you start to get into a routine. Perhaps you buy the same products and attend the same vendor booths. It is a good idea to branch out and try new products. Maybe you visit the same farmers booth and want to expand your pallet choice. Visit a new booth or try new products that you don’t always buy.
